CV Joints - Halfshaft Question (Type 44)

Wouldn't the clicking be in the joint rather than the shaft?  The noise is 
from balls in a cage that no longer ride on smooth surfaces because the 
grease is gone or has become contaminated and the surfaces are nicked up, I 
believe.  If this is a new circumstance, it may be possible to replace the 
boot and grease after a thorough cleaning.
