96 A6 Windshield Seal

My 96 A6 was recently involved in an accident in which we were rear-ended.  The dealer had the car for about 30 days (in warm spring weather, 80 degrees) to repair and repaint the damage.  When I picked the car up I noticed the seal around the windshield was rippled.  It had some small ripples before the accident but the seal was 10 times worse.  The dealer body shop claims it came from sitting outside in the hot sun.  The car has been kept outside for the 3 years I've owned it in much hotter weather than we've had recently with little or no affect on the seal.  Does anyone out there have this sort of problem?  Does anyone have any idea why it has happened?  Thanks in advance.
