'89 Audi 200 fuel sending unit.

Greetings Audifans,

Having just signed up yesterday and going through 1/3 of the massive 
archive I couldn't find anything on the fuel sending unit.  I have a very 
active gas gauge when the tank is full.  The gauge just goes back and forth 
like the Queen Mary in rough sea's.... this just creeped up and has been 
intermittent.  The gauge appears to be accurate at less than half a tank 
(on 2nd full tank since problem appeared.)

My first thought is the fuel sending unit however a few Deja articles from 
alt.autos.audi suggest gauge problems too.
