Hi folks,
Many thanks to the 7 of you that replied. Three said it's easier to first
remove the distrib, four said it's easy with the distrib left in.
Turns out, it's very easy with the distributor left in; perhaps 15 min from
tools out to tools put away.
REMOVAL OF OLD VAC ADVANCE:
1) remove dist cap, rotor, dust shield
2) remove vac hose from vac advance
3) remove Hall sender connector to get it out of the way
4) remove 2 screws holding vac advance to dist body
5) gently pull vac advance away from distrib body to about 1/4"- 1/2". plate
will rotate CC; it's fine.
6) using screwdriver, push down on vac advance arm to disengage it from the
pin on the plate.
INSTALLATION OF NEW VAC ADVANCE:
7) fiddle with the new vac advance to engage the arm on the pin. using a
small mirror to first locate the pin might shorten the fiddle period. push
the vac advance body up flush with the distrib body and reinstall the screws.
8) reconnect/reinstall everything reversing steps 3 --> 1.
You're done, and the idiotic upshift light is now back in your life.
