Any master should move in with some pressure. You may need to put some body
weight to it when bench bleeding a new one, but if you are turning red and
grunting trying to depress the piston, its stuck.

5000 body cars have a problem with the brake masters. The heat in the
engine bay may cause the master to warp over time. The brakes generally
work when cold, but when the car is hot, the master warps a tiny bit, and
the piston will no longer travel easily in the bore. A more common symptom
is that the brakes will not release when you take your foot off the pedal.
It will either cause a total binding that keeps your car from moving, or
leave you wondering why you smell burning brake material after you park it.
