No additional Audi for now...

Hi all,
Looked at an '82 or early '83 CGT 5E yesterday, for sale at the local
scrapyard. When I first saw it (though atmittedly only briefly) it looked
like a good buy because the front-end damage looked to be easily repaired.
Anyway, on closer inspection the damage was a little more than it first
appeared. The whole front end had apparently slid under a truck, because it
was badly out of alignment and the whole front end was angled down. The
hood hadn't suffered much and even the slam panel looked like it would not
be too hard to knock it back into shape, but it had been pushed into the
timing belt cover anyway, and the steering pump had been hit as well.
Shame, as these four-headlight cars (though not exactly valuable here) are
getting scarce and the scrapyard didn't want an extortionate amount for
what was otherwise an original and unadulterated car. It's also a shame
that the car will be broken up now, I'd have loved to add it to my stable-
early CGTs are real eyecatchers. It even had its original 'snowflake'
alloys in perfect shape, with new tyres.
It wasn't a wasted day anyway- in a different scrapyard, we found two rare
15x7 R8s which I added to my collection, as spares for the wheels on my
90q. They need some refinishing but are straight.
Also finally got my collection of spares and wheels out of the house and
into storage, it's incredible how much 'junk' (depending on your views) you
accumulate and how great it is not to have three stacks of wheels in the
hallway anymore, never mind a passenger door in the bathroom or a set of
springs next to the toilet bowl...
