Weird wires

Hi Listers!

Been lurking for a while, absorbing as much knowledge as I can. :)

Have a little query - upon popping open the bonnet (hood) this
evening, I noticed two un-connected wires hanging from just next to
the bonnet pull (this is a UK car, so this would be on the right hand
side, right next to the accelerator pedal). One was a brown colour,
and had a female two-pin connector attached, the other was a creamy
white with the same connector. They just seemed to be dangling there -
I've never noticed them before.

I'm just wondering what the hell they're for! Any ideas?
