Eyvind,
If it is like the one in the earlier Type 44 (specifically '87 5000 cs TQ)
and I think it is, the fix is not too difficult. Remove the cluster.
Remove Speedo assembly. There is a gear on one side that has probably
disintegrated that needs replacement - ususally a couple of teeth have come
off. Take the gear to a hobby shop and find an exact replacement.
Reaassemble and you are good to go.
This is different than the typical 4000 odo failure, which involves a shaft
and worm gear, and is a bit easier to fix than the 4000 design.
Regards,
Ben
[The odometer in my '90 200q stopped at 160990 km.. It just quit
working. The speedometer works just fine. How can I fix the odometer?
It's nice to have a working one.. I'm not in the fraud business.. :-)
I searched the archives, but didn't find any info about this on the
late cars, except the resoldering when the speedo quits working. I've
never experienced this, so I tend to believe this ain't the reason the
odometer stopped..]
