I doubt it - this will always be a niche enthusiast's car. Its value
would be more enhanced be the 4.2 motor if done right (i.e. upgraded ECU
and injectors) than with the stock. It will never truly be a collector's
item - by the time it gets to 25 years old, I could import one with no
restrictions for cheap (or a S4/S6 4.2). With the advent of the A6 4.2,
the soon to be here S6 avant and the S8 (not to mention the RS6 and RS8
twin turbo 4.2) the reasons for buying a 5 speed V8 have largely
diminished.
At this point if one has ready cash they can import a 92/93 V8 6 speed
(with a 3 month or less wait) for a grand total of under $30K - $15K of
which they would get back after 3 months. That would include shipping
and conversion costs.
