Well, yesterday Peymon and I finished tuning and setting up the CIS after the
engine sway, here are the settings
Timing: 7 degrees BTDC
CO: 8mA
Fuel: 92 Octane
Spark Plugs: NGK
At these settings, there is no detonation, I think the timing could even be
advanced to 10 without any trouble, maybe in the future.
Driving impression was very good, compared to the stock low compression 2.2
there is quite a noticeable improvement in power and acceleration. After a
few pretty hard runs, I would estimate 0-60 to be right in the mid-7 second
range. It revs clean up to the rev limiter, and more importantly, has a
strong continuous power band from about 4500-Redline, it pulls really
strongly for a NA motor.
This swap does NOT require a knock sensor, with the initial timing set
conservatively, no knock has been detected, the car pull strongly with no
pinging.
Again, stock JT induction and head, polished and port matched head and intake
manifold, Elgin 270 cam, custom 2.25" exhaust with single Borla muffler. I
also modified the front snub mount to eliminate engine movement, and the
stock motor mounts were modified to reduce movement also.
Before some of you get too excited, this is not turbo performance territory
by any means, but resulted in a relatively low effort swap with a good, fun
car in result. Getting back into my car afterwards was all the confirmation
=)
With the Bilstein/GC suspension and this motor, Peymon's 4kq is one of the
nicest non-turbo cars I have driven! Congrat's Pey.
