My nephew, who was interested in a lowered '91 GTi, has decided that
reliability trumps cool.  Wise beyond his years!  He's found a '97 Jetta
within his budget, and is bugging me for advice.  So, I'll bug you.  Fair's
fair.  ;-)

All I know is, it's a '97 with 33K miles.  To me, that's LOW mileage.  Anyway,
any BTDT appreciated.  In particular, any weak points we should look for? 
What engines are preferred/to be avoided?

were a TR4 though.)
