95 90q fowling plugs

This is a question that I am posting for a friend.   His 95 90q has been 
fowling the #6 plug in about a two week span (when the plug is pulled it's 
torched black).    He's taken it to several reputable mechs around the 
portland (oregon) area and they all are a bit baffled.    The mechs say that 
they haven't seen this in a 90q before.    They're best guess is that the #6 
seal has failed badly.   I wanted to know if anyone has had these same 
symptoms or seen this problem before or has any ideas as to the culprit.
