That is simply because neither VW nor Audi uses this engine in any form of
racing. There are probably some priveteer teams though, but they rarely get
into the limelight without the help of the factory PR offices. This doesnt mean
that this is a bad engine.
And I agree that the 4-cyl may be a better alternative than the 5-cyl when one
thinks of the weight difference and balance, especially since the engine is
hung over the front end like it is. If it sat further back (like in a BMW) it
may not be the same difference. Why not ditch the front drive shafts, move the
engine/tranny backwards and lock the centre diff permanently? You'd get a rwd
Quattro (sic)
There is a guy in VW-Audi Club Norwegen that has pulled 650 hp out of his 1.8T.
It lives in his pink A4q Avant. And both the engine block and crank shaft are
STILL STOCK!!! Nothing else is though...
