Front sub frame removal

On my 84 4kq this right side mount was covered by a heat shield. Once
removed the 17 mm bold was reachable but awkward to get a socket on. The nut
on the other end was free and also reachable with a box end wrench. There
are also two 13mm bolts that secure the mount to the sub frame. The 17 mm
bolt could not be fully removed until the sub frame was dropped a little. I
hope this helps.

I am trying to remove the front subframe of my 1983 quattro with a view to
replacing the perished mounting bushes with a set of the Dialynx solid
aluminium items (I've already succeeded in doing this at the rear). There
appear to be a pair of torque reaction brackets that attach the differential
casing to the subframe. Disconnecting the left side bracket which is
attached via a large compliant bush is not a problem: it is the right side
that is causing the headaches... There appears to be a 17mm bolt that passes
from above through a hole in the bracket into what I have assumed is a
captive nut in the subframe (there are two 13mm bolts screwed into the
subframe either side of the baracket but I'm not sure what these are for...)
Excessive torque was not required to slacken this 17mm bolt which was
encouraging but my heart sank when having turned it through several
revolutions, there was no sign of it coming out. It appears that the nut has
de-captivated itself inside the subfram!

e. Have I missed anything? Is th
ere anything else I could try before I have to consider resorting to
desparate measures (attacking the subframe with an angle grinder etc... )
