T44 - removing radiator thermoswitch?

Frustrated.

Can't seem to get the thermoswitch off.  Looks like a
29mm deep socket would work well but no one seems to
carry this size socket.

What else can I use to get this bugger off?

turning the plastic portion of the thing doesn't do
anything.
