> My '84 4KQ is running REALLY hot - I acutally had to stop on the way into work and pull a McGyver. The old hot wire the cooling fan on an un-used switch inside the cabin trick. Anyway, I recently pulled the radiator and the fins look pretty good and it does not appear to be clogged at all. Got it all back together and still it hovers on the first top bar on the temp gauge.

sound slike a good time to take off the tstat cover and replace the
thermostat. with that and the upper hose off it's pretty easy to flush
the block and heater core clean.
if by the "first top bar" you mean about 2/3 of the way up, that's kinda
normal. does your fan ever run on its own? if not time to check the
sender in the lower radiator and the relay. and whatever else I've
forgotten...
