Black inside of IM - 83 5kt

Dennis  -  are you talking about the oil seal inside the turbo?  How do I
go about checking it and/or changing it?  Thanks, Tex.

Another source is the turbo.
The oil seals can leak enough to cause this. It would also explain the
front 
being darker, and the top having more than the bottom.
