common location for cracks/leaks in 4kq EM?

I have noticed that my car (87 4kq) is not as quiet as it should be with
a new exhaust system. There is a noise that sounds like some sort of
exhaust leak that is noticeable for the first few minutes the car is
running and then more or less goes away as it warms up. Where do these
things usually crack or leak? I may be able to get my mechanic friend to
sniff around for HC's with a emissions tester, but given the extremely
poor access to the exhaust manifold, I could use some guidance as to
where to start looking. I will certainly make sure it isn't around the
flanges on the new exhaust, but with my luck it is probably up way under
everything on manifold. I haven't been able to locate the leak with my
hand or by ear.
