H&R STUDS-the right way to install them

I talked to Tony Lum today, and he mentioned that the result of the H&R stud
thread was that they do not fit straight. I would have chimed in, but I have
had them on my car for over a year and stopped following the thread because I
didn't think there was that much too them...there is'nt!

This is the proper way to install and CENTER H&R Studs:

1) Remove wheels, install the studs in the hub unitl they bottom out on the
threads.

2) Back the studs out 2 full turns.

3) At this point, you will notice the studs are all sticking out at
NON-PERPINDICULAR angles, this is OK. Mount the wheel over the studs and
center the wheel.

4) Thread on the lug nuts, tighten them snugly so the wheel is tight against
the hub, maybe 3 ft/lbs of tourque. Ensure that the wheel is properly
centered on the hub or spacer if you are using one.

5) Now, slowly turn the studs until they are tight, torque them to maybe 15
ft/lbs.

6) Now, tourque the lug nuts to 80 ft/lbs or so

7) Enjoy properly centered and seated studs.

Because threads are not an interference fit, a long stud cannot thread into a
hub and perfectly center itself, it must be centered using a true surface,
the lug nut will center the stud, by itself the stud will alway come out of
the hub at an angle. One they are tourqed, the loctite ensures that the stud
stays there in the future.

BTW, I also recommend hitting the studs with a lilttle black spray paint
before you put them in, even though they are grade 12.9, they will rust, the
paint protects from rust- and I always hit them with WD-40 or a rust
inhibitor too.

HTH, I have been running these studs for over a year with very good results.
