Supercharged MC?

Mike,

I'm seriously considering going with a Eaton M90 supercharger in place of a
turbocharger for my CGT turbo project. The M90 can be found in the boneyard
on many 'murican V6's including the T-bird SC (88-95). It uses a 5 rib
polydrivebelt which is great 'cause the Corrado G60 used a similar 5 rib
belt to drive the G-lader... and the 'raddo crank pulley bolts up to the I-5
crank. I'm planning on running the M90 at 1:1 ~ 6psi, mounting it in place
of the PS pump, removing the PS rack and using a MS rack. I plan on
routing the air through a stock CIS (non-E) setup, then through a pipe
around the back of engine through where the battery used to be, then up the
side of the motor to the intake of the SC. Only the dipstick tube is in
the way, and it can be bent easily out of the way. The outlet from the SC
will go to a single-pass intercooler across the grille, and exit via a short
hose to the intake of a 5kt IM. I plan on using the the MC block, NF head
with MC exhaust valves and 4kq exhaust, and adding the knock sensing
ignition from CIS-E3. That along with the Scirocco rear discs, CGT rear
calipers, 4kq front sway bar will make this car the enough of a parts-bin
mutt that Ingolstadt will be jealous...

My other option (besides using the turbo) is to put a Gti engine in, using a
4k FWD subframe for the engine mounts and a 4k FWD tranny & driveshafts.
The reason I'm considering this is because there are a bunch more
*signifciantly cheaper* bolt-on upgrade options for the 4 cyl motor than for
thr 5 (like EFI). And really 200-225 hp is about the max IMO you
realistically want for a FWD car, and the 4 cylinder is very capable of
that.

Anyway, I'm waiting for winter to start on assembly. I have all the parts
'cept the supercharger and crank pulley to make this work if I go the 5 cyl.
SC route Frankly, I think both of these options are eaiser than a turbo
transplant.

>Use the stock MC bottom end with 7:1 pistons, or a thicker head gasket or
>shave the pistons if they can be shaved enough. On top of that, either an

>Still have a lot to think about and look at but I think it could work.
