On my 1991 200q20v, the original key still works fine after I swapped the
tumblers into a new cylinder while installing the updated stamped-steel
pivoting arm in the driver's door - although I found out after digging into the
door that the old pot-metal piece hadn't broken, one of the plastic rod-holders
had snapped from old age instead. Fixed that with a zip tie, but installed the
updated pieces anyway since I was in there and already had them in hand.

1991 200 quattro, 112k, still dead a/c
1988 GTI 16v, 221k, newer door handle but swapped whole lock cylinder instead
of fiddling with tumblers
