For about 6 months I've had the '5 mile' airbag light - it would stay on
about 2 minutes, then go out. My Audi mechanic had told me it needed to
be reset due to having the instrument cluster out and the battery
disconnected awhile back.
Finally got around to hooking up my Vagcom cable and interrogated the
airbag - showed 2 errors relating to low voltage. Cleared both.
Restarted the car and the light goes out within about 3 seconds...
Also cleared a pair of errors in the engine ECU relating to the O2
sensor. Guess I've got to due a better connection job on the wiring for
it.
As I've said before, if you have a Motronic ECU (1990 up V8, 1991
200q20V, or 92 up Audi) there's no finer tool available for rapid
troubleshooting... Uwe's cable also works with the VWTool software from
Baum Tools.
For those wanting to operate on the cheap, there's a few places you can
find the info on the isolator/connector and build it yourself. Then
download the Demo version which will still allow you to look at data
blocks, read and clear codes. Personnally, I have no problem supporting
someone who has built a business from scratch supplying a product that
has no equal when it comes to VW/Audi diagnostics. Uwe's customer
service is the best I've seen. Ned is the only one that comes close.
