5K Drivers Side Footwell Heat

Here's an odd one...

Just got back from taking a long trip, where the temps were just right
for cruising with the windows open.  With no CC fan running, it was
pretty obvious to me (the driver) that there was alot of heat radiating
from the driver's side footwell area, lower dash and under the dash.
Passenger side did not seem to have this.

I am trying to find out what might be the source of that heat.  The
vaccum heat control switch on the heater hose closes (at least it does
at idle when I am looking under the hood). And nothing else seems out of
place.

Is this normal?  Anyone know what causes the drivers side under dash to
get hot?
