How's this: DWW? Thought it didn't happen? I (being of the white skinned
variety) was giving a black friend of mine and his wife and kids a ride to
their mother's house. While driving there, a sheriff's car passed in the
other direction. We were both going 60. I forgot about it, but about 1
mile later the sheriff was right on my tail, lights flashing. His excuse
for stopping me: My temp tags had expired by one day.
Now here in NC, Temp tags are filled in by hand in small print at the very
bottom of the tag, often obscured by the license plate frame. You can
barely read the expiration date at 10 feet if you are right behind the car,
there is no way he could have read it as we passed in opposite directions
at a combined rate of speed of 120 mph.
Obviously I was stopped because I was driving an interracial carload. He
inquisitioned us for several minutes, then let us go.
Two friends of mine was stopped for the same reason, one was giving the
other (his roommate, one black/one white) to his job, and he was stopped,
and their car was searched.
Just last night (I heard this on the scanner,) there was a report of a red
BMW that MIGHT be stolen. A off-duty cop at a local supermarket called in,
and said he had seen a BM driving a newer red BMW just 15 minutes ago, he
just happened to write down the plate number! (Now why did he do that? I
suspect it was because a BM was driving a nice car.) They ran the plate,
and it was registered to a local owner in a nice part of town. That owner
was driving the car, because they drove by and the car was in the driveway.
