type 44 dies-vac leaks?

My gf was driving the '89 200 to work this morning,
she was coasting (clutch depressed) when it died. She
pulled off, let it sit a few minutes, and restarted
after which it died immediately. She said she noticed
while cranking that the boost gauge read 1.5 and 1.6,
this to me suggests a vac leak.
She was able to restart and continue, but only if
she kept the rpms at 2-3k when stopped.
I drove the car for nearly an hour at lunch,
repeated boosting, and nothing, not even a hint of
overboost.
I think I have soaked the entire engine compartment
in starting fluid LOL, to no avail.
If I pull the dipstick quickly the car will chug and
then die. If I pull it slowly idle suffers and then
recovers. I'm really frustrated, any help is
appreciated.

Much thanx,
Keith L.
