I used to live on a street where one particular set of parents like to let
their children ride their bikes in circles in front of their house. The
kids never got to go anywhere, just constant 30 foot circles. Needless to
say it was quite inconvenient for traffic in front of their house. One
time I was driving along (the speed limit) and all of a sudden something
comes flying through my open window and strikes me on the head. It was a
tennis ball. I bring my vehicle to a quick stop (without hitting anything,
quite miraculously) and looked around. The kids are there and so is the
dad. I go up to the house and ask who threw the ball. The dad states that
his 5 year old daughter did it. Now let's see, a 5 year old throws a
tennis ball 100 feet and manages to get it through the open window of a car
going 25 miles per hour and still be forceful enough to hurt, I DON'T THINK
SO. Then he has to nerve to say that it was my fault for speeding and
please stop speeding in front of his house. I blew my top and started
yelling at him or at least 5 minutes at the top of my lungs, then warned
him that even though I couldn't prove he threw the ball, if anything else
happened in front of his house 'suspiciously' then things would get ugly
in the neighborhood. He got the message and while the kids continued to
ride in circles in front of the house, they got out of the road more
quickly when they saw my car coming.
