Problem with Bose system in '92 100CS

I'm suddenly getting an EXTREMELY LOUD feedback-like noise coming from
my speakers. This is a Bose system in a '92 100CS. 

I've tried to determine if it's front or rear speakers, it's apparently
all of them together. I want to say it has more to do with the bass
then the treble, because it starts out like a gong sound in time with
the bass/beat of a song and then overcomes everything with an
INCREDIBLY LOUD feedback sound. It sounds like all my speakers are
going to blow up and take my head with them!

Has *anyone* ever had this happen? Of course, this happens on the very
DAY that I think I've found a Miata I want to buy as a secondary toy.

I bet replacing any of the Bose components is expensive, isn't it?
