Guys and gals - I've been lurking for a while, though I've periodically
been reading a fair amount of the traffic. However, I need to put up the
Audi (and all the other cars) up for sale. Here's the scoop on the Audi.
It'd be a great car for someone who was considering buying a cheap car to
fix up, since I've already done all the work.
1989 Audi 200 turbo Quattro Avant (wagon)
* 83k miles
* Silver w/ black leather. Paint has clearcoat problems, but NO rust! Looks
great at 10 feet.
* 5 speed
* Car pulls 1.4 bar in 3rd on uphills, steady idle. Chip upgrade on order.
* Almost everything that 'goes' wrong with these cars has been
repaired/upgraded
* Parts replaced/upgraded in past 1 to 3 years:
-Heater hoses, coolant tank, and all switches/senders in engine comp.
-turbo hoses
-Full service, including timing belt/water pump, o2 sensor, plug wires, cap
rotor etc.
-New Bilstein HDs
-16 inch Zagato wheels with Yoko AVS Sport (5)
-Pirelli Winter 210s on stock wheels
-New brake calipers, braided hoses, master cylinder, pads, rotors, pressure
accumulator.
-New hand brake cables
-New wheel bearings
- New A/C compressor
-Sony CD head unit w/ 10-disc CD changes, ADS amp, Infinity speakers
-Front strut bar
-Turbo gaskets changed
-Exhaust manifold strengthened (welded)
-Synthetic fluids
-Intercooler strapped
-New Distributor
-New Fuel Injectors and Fuel Pump
-New Power steering pump
-Euro headlights with individual relays and fuses
-New bigger cable (1 piece) from battery to starter (to eliminate splice)
-Additional power cable from battery to fuse box
-Radiator fan fusible link added
-TPS switch replaced.
-New clutch and driveshaft (by PO).
-Radar detector wired above rear view mirror.
-New accelerator pedal
Projects left to do:
- Driver's side mirror wiring is incorrect motor does work though
- Steering rack leaks
- Oil pan and gearbox seals leak bottoms are wet.
- Connecting alarm module drains battery
- 1 interior light bulb and switch not working. Have not focused on
it yet.
- Erratic connection for passenger door lock to central lock vacuum pump.
- Seat heaters don't work.
ABS, cruise control, climate control all work. A/c blows very cold.
The car has a 'rebuilt' title. I think it might have been in a flood. The
reason I chose to buy this car was that unlike every other 200 I looked at,
this one had no rust in the front wheelwells/fenders, and that's still
true. I cleaned every connector in the car, and replaced many wires, and it
is now truly rebuilt, with almost every system operational.
I think the mileage is real, and the engine, tranny and suspension operate
perfectly. I regularly drive this car over 90mph, and take turns at
outrageous speeds the combination of the strut bar w/ the Yokohams AVS
Sport tires gives the car a lot of feel and grip, and it is a joy to drive
once it has momentum.
Most of the gremlins were electrical and they have been mostly banished.
I have well over $12k in repairs/upgrades to the car, (orig cost $3250),
and have used it for less than 10k miles. It spent most of the past year in
storage, as we had moved to California. I was hoping to use it for over 5
years to depreciate the parts I have put in or have had put in, but
circumstances force a sale.
What's a fair price? $9,000? $8,000?
Car is located in Stamford, CT. 203-461-8738 Home, 203-618-1133 W.
Also for sale:
1986 BMW 635 Csi (maybe - even more of an overkill than the Audi - too long
to summarize here)
1991 Lotus Elan (42k, bolt on mods, roll bar, very quick, very reliable,
ridiculous grip)
1977 BMW 530i (heavily modifed)
