chris,

1. I have no idea...

2. my heater valve was working but the cc "programmer" control head thingy
(small black box behind/above the glovebox - NOT flight diagnostics) was not
actuating it's "arm" (behind the glovebox) properly. thus i was getting all
hot air at times (a usual default for me :). its a sign of a dying cc
programmer. seems to be a VERY common 200$ failure point.

watch the arm, it should move from left to right when you run from max cold
to hot on the cc head (i may be mixing my temps and arm directions...) it
actuates a rod that connects to another little black arm on the blower
housing (i htink) under the plastic cowl cover.

>The heater control valve will open and close depending on the mode
selected on the climate control head. I get heat in all positions except
OFF.

3. i have no idea.

Is there a way to work from the engine compartment to under the dash for
vacuum lines? That is, I'd like to temporarily block off vacuum lines to
help in diagnosing what's wrong.

as for your high idle - everyone will tell you to clean your ISV with carb
cleaner, you can check to make sure it opens + closes w a 9v battery.
bentley has checcks for proper voltages at the ISV plugg. also clean your
throttle body and check the vaccum fittings on/by the valve cover (the
notorious plastic tee). throttle switches are also common problems here. you
should hear the switch click when you crack the throttle pivot open. no
click=bad switch.

i had an annoying high idle and a slow deceleration condition that this all
but erased. its still not perfect. i also cleaned the return springs on mine
- they were really caked with goo and i cant imagine that helped (theyre not
very springy as is....)

i also went around and tightened all of the vaccum line hose clamps. many
were very loose.

HTH,

jim
