alternator belt alignment question

Ken,
Don't worry about "eyeballing", a V-belt is capable, and designed to take a
rather large amount misalignment (it is not the same as a timing belt). The
whole point of using this type of belt is for the purpose of its
insensitivity to misalignment. Of course it is also one of the most cost
efficient ways (read cheap) to transfer power. A straight edge is more than
sufficient!
I have a large selection of pulleys; let me know what you need.
Take care,
Avi

Subject: alternator belt alignment question
Apparently, I need to figure out some combination of pulley and
washer orientation/omission to get my 110a alternator to work
correctly on my '88 5kcstq.
I don't really feel confident in my ability to "eyeball" whether the
belt is straight or not. Is there some better method to measure the
alignment between two pulleys?
I can put a straight-edge inside the groove, but I don't know how to
make sure that it is exactly where it should be.
Thanks!
Ken
