Hopefully it's just a bad switch at the reservoir or the multifunction
switch. There have been several threads on this, a search of the
archives will probably get you some very specific posts on the procedures
for checking the various sensors. I had the same problem, and even made
a quick and dirty web page with my experience:

I have aquired a complete cluster from a fellow lister, but just haven't
had the time to replace the NA cluster....besides it's the wife's car, as
long as nothing is flashing or beeping she's more than happy with it!
The worse components to check was the wiring harness, the wires are
tight, and the wiring diagrams in the Bentley leave much to be desired
(expecially when they're WRONG as to wire color.)
Hopefully your problem is a simple one, like the multifunction switch or
the reservoir sensor.........
