4kq downpipe question

the above replies are "quattro-centric" and i think the question is
about a FWD car.

tougher and easier.  The EM/DP bolts are way up higher since the fwd EM
is "smaller".  but at least there are only 3.

you can get at the bolts as suggested, with a ve long extension or two
and a swivel joint, also they can sometimes be reached a bit (on or two
anyway) thru the wheel well.  Lots of penetrating oil and patience is
important.  Once they are undone, the tranny attachment is removed, and
the cat is disconnected, you should be able to fish the downpipe out
from below - try to have the car as high up as you can get it.

Good luck with those EM/DP nuts, hope you do not have trashed studs
there.  If some thread has "died" you may need two nuts on them to
secure your replacement properly.
