I just replaced the clutch in my 4000q, and I had to take the downpipe
(manifold to cat) out, to allow the transmission to clear (previous owner
had bashed it up, to even with the bottom of the transmission).
I found that it was not too bad to get at, after I had dropped the
subframe. It still required getting at all five of the nuts from different
angles, and with different lengths of extensions. Trying, but not *too*
difficult. BUt remember, I was doing the clutch, so 'not difficult' may be
only by comparison! :-)

You probabaly would want to get new downpipe nuts, and gasket ahead of
time. And it wouldn't hurt to spray everything with some kind of rust
solvent ahead of time (Although that will be hard if you don't have the
subframe down). I was plesantly surprised, in that all the nuts undid,
without skidding into round nuts. Your experience may differ... :-(
