Hey guys -
I forgot to mention this, but there was an Audi school at Pocono right before
the PCA race - I guess someone wrecked an "S2" - that's what I was told -
although I had trouble getting details. Apparently it was an aftermarket,
not a factory jobby. Anyone know who it was? Also there was a SEMA or
something event, and several A4/S4's showed - pretty neat. Didn't get to
watch any of them, but my guess is that they got whipped by the pretty mean
looking sports racers that showed. Anyone who was there, I was with my
friend who won his class, 4th overall - number 72 yellow 911 (993) in group
1. Pretty wild event, overall - it rained mid race, and our other friend,
Jim Grady in the 1992 968 Turbo RS with around 530hp, didn't fair to well
with the change in conditions, but managed a late braking pass at around
140mph off the banking to take the lead on the last lap over the 550-600hp
930 turbo leading. Neato to watch. Makes you feel pretty slow - my friend
turns .56's at Limerock - only about 10secs faster than I think I can go in
the car now :-). Also, Grady's 968 does somewhere in the neighborhood of
185mph at the Glen on the straight, and turns 1:50's....on the long course.
Consider that next time you think you're "flying"...
I'm off to Walkins Glen tomorrow, full report on Monday - I'm going to try to
run the 225's....
Later!
Carter
