Turbo Project Problems

Well I have mailed my regular folks for advice, but in this case I think
I'd like to get lots of opinions and input. The problems are as follows:

I have no boost according to my gauge, just vacuum. This is with the
car in the air and no pressure on the engine, that may be the problem,
yes/no? I have removed the intake pipes and checked them plus the turbo
impeller. All seem perfect and impeller spins freely like it always has. I
clamped off the control line for the bypass valve and that changed nothing.
I don't hear any whistling or gushing air plus the engine runs fine at idle
and when revving. If there was a huge vacuum leak I'd get no boost in the
manifold but I'd expect to hear that too. Tips?

Oil pressure levels out at 1bar on the gauge when the engine is warmed
up. Upon start up it goes to 5bar and holds, then drops to 2bar and holds,
then when the engine is getting completely warmed up it drops to 1bar and
holds. Is that too low for idling safely, no lifter noise and no scary
noises? 10W-30 dino oil by the way, no oil smoke from the tailpipe and
compression is 170-185psi on all four cylinders.

Smelly black smoke from the turbo/EM area when engine is running and
hot. I think it may just be burning off junk from whatever the EM was
treated with, black powder coating almost, turbo has that rebuilt gray paint
on it too. It looks like the smoke is coming from there, no smoke from the
tailpipe or odd smells, so must be an external thing. Anyone?

Any tips or hints would be greatly appreciated. Everything is put
together and things are running well, except a malfunctioning coolant gauge.
I am troubleshooting that now as well. I can't wait to get this car on the
road, but I am frightfully nervous of course:)

TIA!
