4000q stops after 3 miles

A non lister friend has an 86 4000q that will stall after about 3 miles and
refuses to start for a good while. The interesting thing is the coolant
warning lamp comes on 15 seconds before cut out. From my questions to him it
would appear the fuel pump relay has interviened as the pump is not heard to
prime the system or run again. When it does re-start it is as though nothing
ever happened.
Does this ring a bell for anyone ?
My Haynes manual has poor printing right in this area of the diagrams,
anyone have a copy electronically I could look at ?
