Alloy Wheels, ?'s

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck cleaning the pits out of unpainted, polished, alloy wheels? I had picked up a set really cheap, and don't want to invest alot of money having them refinished. Aren't their chemicals that react to alloy, that might work, if used in moderation?
