Flywheel shaving/lightening question...

Hi,
There is a fair bit of metal on the flywheel of the MC-1 engine. It's
got a big metal ridge around the back about an inch thick I reckon
(flywheel not in front of me). Is it okay to assume I can have it
removed and fit an appropriate 240mm clutch and pressure plate? I think
this was done from MC to 3B engine. I'm not one in the know about this
kind of stuff, but it looks like a fat clutch disc fits into the MC
flywheel or some odd pressure plate. The wall is very big indeed
compared to the flywheel I got off an AAR engine with 228mm disc and
240mm pressure plates and a flat back end on it.
I got this particular flywheel from Chris Semple (thanks again, Chris,
if you're reading this :)) and he compared it with a 3B and it does look
like there's plenty of metal that can be removed from the MC-1 flywheel.
I just want to find out if I can remove the entire wall and perhaps get
a clutch kit for the 3B motor. What do you guys reckon?
Or would it be wise to leave some weight on the flywheel for use with
the MC-1 engine and its torque characteristics?
G.
