Don't you find that leaves you with really low torque? 3k is "running"
RPM on nearly every car I've owned, including the A6 (which has such
monstrous torque that I _could_ accelerate from 1k if needed, albeit a
tad on the slow side). My "not hurrying" shift point is "whenever it
gets over 4k".
