Wastegate diaphragm.

Regarding the torn diaphragm on my friends 5000 Turbo quattro.
 
He has another wastegate.  He used duct tape to patch the original
temorarily.
 
Question for the list - how do you replace the diaphragm?  It seemed to be
affixed to a ring in the center.  Is his safest bet to swap wastegates?

 Yeah... but what are you going to do now?  The diaphragms are either not
available or verrrrry expensive.  However, some have reported that using an
ordinary inner tube cut to the diaphragm shape works quite well.  Not tried
it... good luck
