wheels on yer 5k

Jim,
I see several issues here:
1. The width of the wheels- 8 inch wide wheels will be a tough
fit on a 5kt/tq, regardless of the offset, if it is stock-bodied.
2. The offset of the wheels, ideally, needs to be different front and
rear, for putting the largest possible wheels under the car, because
you'll have steering knuckle clearance issues in the front and rear
fender clearance issues in the back.
3. Lowering the car makes it even tighter in the wheelwells.
My advice is to talk to the Bennett brothers in CA- they have obviously
done some pretty crazy tire combos on the 5ktq, so they would definitely
know what will and will not fit.
Ideally, you want to flare the fenders and install V8/UrS struts up front
to gain the most space in the wheelwells. Of course, that's a very expensive
solution. :-(
Have any listers managed anything larger than a 7" wide wheel on a 5ktq
without body mods?
Taka
