Yes, however I think a distinction needs to be made between actual calendar
year and model year.  In the US it is customary to use the model year.
A 1989 model year car may be manufactured anywhere from mid-1988 to mid-1989...
What may be called a '89 in the US may very well be an '88 in Europe.
