OK, trying to still my hunger for knowledge on all things Audi I've bought
three more books-
'Audi Quattro takes on the competition', English, 144 pp, Brooklands Books
UK, ISBN 1 85520 5084, www.brooklands-books.com
A compilation of road tests to complement the previously-published road
test books by Brooklands, this time venturing into more recent machinery.
Includes UrQ, 80, 90, 4k, 5k, 100, 200, A3, A4, A6, A8, TT. Cars tested
when new as well as for buying used. Makes for interesting reading, though
B&W reprints of magazines aren't that great. Having said that, they've
improved since the previous issues.
'Typenkompass Audi Personenwagen seit 1965', Walter Zeichner, German, 117
pp, Motorbuch Verlag, ISBN 3-613-01874-8
If you want to broaden your knowledge of European-spec Audis, this is an
excellent source. Sorted by model, detailing tech specs, German prices,
build dates and any other particular of the car you'd like to know, bar
build quantities. Some weird inclusions such as the Fox wagon (but not
sedan), the allroad proto and the duo. Excellent info though. Pics in B&W.
'Audi Typenatlas Serienfahrzeuge', Marc Bongers, German, 160 pp, Delius
Klasing Verlag, ISBN 3-7688-1245-6, www.delius-klasing.de
As this is the more recent book of two similar issues (the scope of this
book is the same as that of the Typenkompass) this is probably the better
purchase. In colour, too. The same cars are covered but production numbers
are included in this one. If you can read basic German, this would be the
ultimate book to learn about the company's (home market) products. Some
prototypes like the Avus and the quattro Spyder are included, and the
research quality is pretty good- I haven't been able to spot any obvious
errors or omissions so far. Produced before either the TT roadster or
allroad were introduced, so these cars are not included.
If you have any questions about these books, let me know. Where to get them
is probably your main problem, amazon.com, autometrix.co.uk or ewacars.com
might help out besides the URLS given by the publishers.
