1990 Model 100 Window Motor, Fuel Pump Questions

Lads - 
        How much voltage is req'd to actuate the motor? Should I be able to apply DC voltage to one of the two leads coming directly from the motor & see some action? (I don't after applying 12VDC.)
        Haven't received my factory manual yet! How much of a PITA is replacing the fuel pump? I've heard (from an Audi dealer) that a special tool is req'd. Can I fabricate one?
