As noted above I have a 1983 5000 Turbo sedan with automatic, 125,057
miles. After trying to get it running (from sitting for 3 (?) years), I
have some questions for you experienced experts.
First the status:
Started and ran okay on all cylinders smoothly (after gutting cat, as the
blocked cat was a problem determined by the help from this list), then died
and I did not attempt a restart. Idle held about 750 on it's own. Bar was
.4 (scale of 0.0 then lines for .2, .4, .6, .8 then 1.0 is marked and then
lines for 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and then 2.0 is marked). Oil temp was first
mark past the start mark of 60deg. C. Engine temp was at half mark.
Radiator fan cycled on and off. Fuel at half tank (old fuel - no means to
drain tank as had been suggested earliar to me on this list). Added
injector cleaner / fuel stabilizer to tank and let sit for last four weeks.
Changed air filter, oil filter for turbo, oil filter for engine and oil
(seemed like 8 quarts came out), put in 5 quarts of 10w30. Restarted car
yesterday. Ran like it was only on four cylinders, Would want to die if
left alone to idle. Held idle at 1,200 rpm manual. Bar first at .4 then
after fan came on for radiator, Bar stayed at .6. Radiator fan cycled on
and off. Oil light blinking if rpm raised to 1,500. Oil temp at first
mark past 60deg. C. If rpm raised to 2,500, then excessive black smoke
came out exhaust. Ran for twenty minutes at 1,200 rpm then shut down car.
Restarted after two minutes, then blew radiator hose that goes from top of
main radiator to radiator in front of engine. Fan did not come on this
time, temp raised up to near top of scale, temp light started blinking.
Now the questions:
A) would I be checking for a blown fuse on the fan circuit (since fan did
not come back on).
B) is the oil need to be 20w50 instead of 10w30 to increase the pressure
rating for the sensor.
C) is it possible that an injector is stuck open and causing the missing
cylinder sound and causing the excessive carbon
D) what should I be checking to find out why the Bar guage showed low
until fan came on.

Thanks, Tex. 6/20/01 1644hrs. EDT.
