It should be noted that in the Type 85 (4kq, CGT, urq) heating system, the 
side vents are connected beneath the heater core while the center vents are 
plumbed above the heater core (that's why the center is always cold).  If 
the temp cable is not adjusted correctly or the heater valve is leaking, 
then warm air will always come out of the side vents.  If the valve is 
truly shut, then the cold air from the A/C evaporator will blow right 
through the heater core and reach the side vents.
