4kq tranny removal question

Huw,
I just did mine a few months ago. It was necessary to remove the
downpipe. There are 5? nuts holding it to the exh manifold. 4 of them came
off w/ just a long extension and a swivel socket. The fifth one had to be
heated w/ the oxy-acetyl torch, then it came right off. I got replacement
bronze exhaust nuts at the import parts store and reinstalled w/ anti-seez,
just in case I do this again soon. Used the aforementioned blue wrench to
blow the rusted bolts off the cat converter. This is also a good opportunity
to change the O2 sensor. My car is running better for it.
My only real mistake was that I cut the clutch slave hose to drop the
tranny out. That slave cylinder did NOT want to come out of the bellhousing.
Had to buy a replacement hose from Audi dealer for $80. Next time, I will
cut the steel line above the hose. The steel line can be replaced w/ generic
line from the FLAPS, then the special 11mm bastard fittings can be re-flared
onto the new line.
