4kq tranny removal question

Huw,
    I just did mine a few months ago.  It was necessary to remove the 
downpipe.  There are 5? nuts holding it to the exh manifold.  4 of them came 
off w/ just a long extension and a swivel socket.  The fifth one had to be 
heated w/ the oxy-acetyl torch, then it came right off.  I got replacement 
bronze exhaust nuts at the import parts store and reinstalled w/ anti-seez, 
just in case I do this again soon.  Used the aforementioned blue wrench to 
blow the rusted bolts off the cat converter.  This is also a good opportunity 
to change the O2 sensor.  My car is running better for it.
    My only real mistake was that I cut the clutch slave hose to drop the 
tranny out.  That slave cylinder did NOT want to come out of the bellhousing. 
 Had to buy a replacement hose from Audi dealer for $80.  Next time, I will 
cut the steel line above the hose.  The steel line can be replaced w/ generic 
line from the FLAPS, then the special 11mm bastard fittings can be re-flared 
onto the new line.
