Lifter update: '86 4kq

Hi all: a quick update on my noisy lifters. On the suggestion of several
listers (sorry I didn’t get to you all earlier, but thanks!), I removed the
actuating rod from the vacuum pump, and that appears to have been the guilty
party making all the racket. I had actually started to question if it was
the lifters, as the noise was much sharper and louder than the typical
lifter noise. Of course, this brings up another set of unknowns to me: what
won’t work now that the vacuum pump isn’t pumping? Does the cruise control
need this (it was working intermittently, sorta)? The brakes appear to be
fine, but is there going to be some nasty surprise sometime?

Glad not to have to pull the thing apart. Again, sorry I didn’t get back to
the individual responses I received, but they were much appreciated.
