Thanks to all who replied. It is truly one of those things. I really
don't know what happened and probably will never know for sure, which isn't
the best feeling in the world. Hopefully I can salvage most of that motor,
rebuilt head, new pistons, rebuilt turbo, oil cooler, intercooler, and those
sorts of bits. The entire inside of the car is immaculate, though there is
a burning rubber stink to the whole car. Thanks to Pete at Double Z Motors
I have a place to store the car, salvage parts, and eventually say goodbye
to it in his junk yard. He has been overwhelmingly nice to me and is even
going to store the car indoors because of all the nice parts.
I am glad I'm still around to be writing this message, first and
foremost the most important thing. As I get bits and pieces off the car
I'll keep you all posted as to what I find. Seems to me it was just one or
two of those fuel lines, possibly maxed out by the heat and pressures of
running that turbo at 95-110mph for two hours, though the insurance company
and police don't need to know about that. It looks like the insurance
company may not pay out anything, but our adjuster is over looking our
policy and will call back later today.
If anyone needs some small parts of something larger that I may have
just give me a buzz within the next week or so. Pete at Double Z really
doesn't want the car, can't do much with it, so it's best if anyone wants
parts to have me yank them as soon as possible. I have a feeling he may
crunch this one. Silver/Blue body panels, blue fuzzy interior, blue leather
door panels, blue interior bits, and any little bits I don't grab for my
next car.
Thank you everyone! Special thanks to Dan Simoes, Javad, Paul Cole, Jim
Green, and anyone I missed who helped me with the shortest lived and oddest
turbo conversion out there.
