Hey, something to think about when you are at your friendly parts counter
next time.
If you have a 4kq, you might want to order a set of these little guys.
P/N 431-721-559 They are little dense foam rubber pieces that look like a
narrow spool (for thread). One holds the gas pedal to the linkage plate
under the dash, and one holds the linkage plate to the throttle cable.
Being as old as our cars are, these pieces are probably close to
disintegrating, if they haven't already.
Reason I noticed was, I was stopped at a light, heard a thunk, and suddenly
noticed that my gas pedal had fallen to the floor. Turns out that these
little pieces had mostly fallen apart, and allowed the linkage to come off
of the pedal. Not cool.
Anyhow, they are available at the dealer, and list for about $7us.
The one good part about it, is that the engine has enough torque, and the
gearing is low enough, that the car will still move if you let the clutch
out, so you can mosey the car off to the side of the road to reattach the
linkage temporarily. : )
